About
Me and FireFly on one of our first rides.
Three years old and plunked on the best baby-sitter ever!
My name is Jayne Johnson and my horse is FireFly, a Friesian-Appaloosa cross. I am currently based in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada but because I'm certified with Equi-Health Canada, Equi-First Aid USA and Equi-International, I can teach anywhere you want to host a course.
I have loved horses since the moment I knew what they were and tried to spend as much time with them as I could during my growing up years.
I owned my own horse starting at the age of 13 and we rode for many hours and miles. She taught me a lot but now that I know more, I know that she put up with a lot and I'm glad she was such an easy keeper.
In my history with horses I have ridden and loved on every horse I could find, managed a summer camp string of horse and taught kids ages 6 to 18 as well as blind campers while there. I worked at an Arabian Show Barn as a groom and later managed a barn with 12-14 horses. I wasn't able to continue working with horses for a while after my first horse passed away from colic. But there was always a hole in my heart and I knew I'd get back into the horse world as soon as I could.
I am a former law enforcement officer with an career ending injury. During my career I became a detective and while I enjoyed the job, it had it's stressors. I found FireFly during this time when she was 9 months old and she has turned into my therapy and saving grace while I deal with the lingering effects of what I investigated in that career.
The name Code 4 comes from my time in law enforcement. "Code 4" in the law enforcement agencies that I worked in means "all is good, I'm in control of the situation." This is why I am teaching Equine First Aid.
As we all know, the moment our horse shows any symptoms of anything, we get that knot in our stomach wondering what new thing they have done to themselves. Horses owners and enthusiasts know that it is not "if" your horse hurts itself, it is "when." I want everyone I work with to feel confident that they have the knowledge and tools to say "I'm in control of the situation and I know what to do to get my horse the best help and be ready for the questions or visit from the vet."
I am certified throught Equi-Health Canada, Equi-Health International and Equi-First Aid USA, so if you would like to host a class, please contact me!
